Teaching Philosophy

Students--regardless of age and grade level--come into a classroom with various levels of skills, understandings, and experiences. So do teachers. The more we learn, the more we know, the more we grow and adapt. In turn, my teaching philosophy and accompanied methods continue to develop, morphing week-to-week, month-to-month, year-to-year.

What makes my artwork--my teaching philosophy--so beautiful and thought provoking is not any one color, rather, it is the ways in which all the colors work together. My philosophy not only fosters successful students in terms of good grades and passing test scores, more importantly, it encourages my students to be people with quality character, to drive them towards life-long learning, to encourage them to ask questions and seek solutions, to create and innovate, to colloborate; elements I believe are truly imperative for the future of our plant and all living things inhabiting it.

I like to think of my teaching philosophy as a colorful pieces of art that is never quite finished.  There are many colors at work: The Socratic Method, Boom's Taxonomy, Webb's Depth of Knowledge, Positive Classroom Communities, Learning Styles, Project Based Learning, Teacher Transparency, and more.
